Taylor Dunn Bigfoot XL Custom Cab Enclosure
Taylor-Dunn Bigfoot XL – Custom Framed Cab
This Taylor-Dunn Bigfoot XL showed up with no overhead guard and no factory cab options, but the customer needed full weather protection and better operator safety. They sent the unit to our shop, and our team engineered a complete framed cab system from scratch.
Project Overview
The Bigfoot XL is a solid platform for moving people and material, but running it year-round with an open cockpit isn’t ideal. The goal on this project was to turn an open-air cart into an enclosed, all-weather unit without giving up visibility, access, or serviceability. Because there was no existing overhead guard to build from, our team designed a complete steel structure that serves as both the cab frame and protective guard, then wrapped it in polycarbonate for clear sightlines in every direction.
What We Built
A fully framed cab system built specifically for this Taylor-Dunn Bigfoot XL.
- Custom steel overhead structure acting as both cab frame and protective guard
- Full-height polycarbonate windshield with wide visibility
- Framed side panels for weather protection while keeping sightlines open
- Sliding windows built into the doors with interior and exterior handles
- Clean tie-in to the original chassis without heavy modification
- Weather-ready design for snow, wind, and cold-weather operation
Built by Our Engineering & Fab Teams
It’s a great example of what happens when you give our team an open-ended problem and a blank platform to build from.

How This Custom Build Came Together
For this project, the customer shipped the Bigfoot XL directly to our facility. Once it arrived, our team:
- Documented key dimensions, mounting points, and operator space
- Engineered a new overhead frame that ties into the chassis at multiple points
- Test-fit and refined the cab structure directly on the vehicle
- Installed the finished steel frame and polycarbonate panels for an OEM-style look

Project Requirements
Because this custom build was engineered specifically around the actual unit, we do not ship these as kits. The equipment must be brought to our facility so we can handle all measurements, fabrication, test-fitting, and installation directly on the machine.
- Customer arranges transport of the machine to and from our shop
- We complete all engineering, fabrication, and installation onsite
- The finished machine leaves ready to go directly to work
If you can ship your equipment to us, we can build a cab that fits it perfectly.
